Voice as Prayer. Sound as Transformation.
Satkirin Kaur Khalsa carries a lifelong devotion to the sacred sound current, the NAAD of Gurbani Kirtan- the musical frequency to one's Infinite Soul.
Trained from a young age she studied and performed this subtle science of Mantra and Shabad in India with seva at the Golden Temple (Harimander Sahib).
Through deep immersion and direct experience her devotion emits the grace of a Khalsa woman. As a wife, mother of 2 sons, a teacher trainer and guide she continues to nurture both family, women and community through the teachings of Kundalini Yoga, and the wisdom of the 10 Sikh Guru guides.
Called to serve in New York City in 1992 her voice and presence became a bridge across cultures, performing in yoga centers, Gurdwaras, and even at the United Nations.
Now the founder of Naad Academy, she continues to uplift hearts and guide men and women across the globe. Through her many Kirtan Albums she offers a direct experience of the language to one's SOUL body. This direct experience of sound pattern language of the soul is joyful, profound and transformative.
Her first album: Universal Prayer was given this special name by the master YOGI BHAJAN.
Wherever Satkirin travels, her classes and the music become a spiritual gathering of souls, where music, meditations and devotion merge into one radiant living experience of GOOD COMPANY!
Over the years I have been blessed to study with devoted teachers of Gurbani Kirtan and to immerse myself in the classical tradition of sacred sound. I have recorded more than twenty albums of mantra and Shabad, not as projects but as prayer, so that the vibration may support practitioners in their homes, their classes and their daily discipline around the world.
Together with my husband I co-founded the Naad Academy of Gurbani Kirtan, a place dedicated to preserving and transmitting this living tradition with integrity and love.
Wherever I teach — whether in India, Europe or the Americas — my intention remains the same: to serve the Shabad and to help others discover the power of their own voice.
For over forty years I have lived and taught this path of Naad Yoga and Gurbani Kirtan. Over the years, I have recorded more than twenty albums of mantra and Shabad. These recordings continue to support practitioners around the world in their daily practice, reaching far beyond the rooms where we gather in person.
In 1980, SatKirin Kaur Khalsa served as one of the first female Guru Granthis in the Western Hemisphere, helping establish the Sikh Dharma tradition in the West.
In the photo on the left she escorts the Siri Guru Granth Sahib (SGGS) to the Vaisakhi celebration at the Gurdwara in Los Angeles, California, carefully holding the sacred scripture during the journey.
In the photo on the right, the Shabad Guru is carried in ceremonial procession, accompanied by two women Guru Granthis from Mother Ashram while young children walk ahead. Their presence reflects how the tradition of mantra, devotion and sacred service is passed from one generation to the next.
These images reflect an early moment in the Western transmission of Sikh Dharma, Naad Yoga, mantra and Kundalini Yoga tradition.
